IFe research Lab is the research component created to support IFe civic Lab, a local laboratory founded in 2023 as a consolidation of various collaborations between university and local communities. It proposes actions that bring together grassroots practices and institutional dimensions in relation to urban space.

The project promotes critical and self-critical reflection on the neighbourhoods of Milan's Municipality 9 and on the social and cultural innovation produced by active participants, focusing on marginality and environmental and urban well-being.
The network includes local actors, a wide range of organisations (around 10), and researchers from DAStU who collaborate with CALL- Cities in Action for Learning Lab and maudlab - Mapping and Urban Data Lab.

IFe's approach to building shared knowledge, including in relation to groups traditionally excluded from interaction processes, is divided into a series of objectives:
  • identifying urgent issues for the reference territory by promoting opportunities for deliberation and participation
  • producing new representations
  • proposing pilot projects and experiments
  • scaling innovative projects, bringing them to the attention of institutions through the support of private entities
  • benefiting from exchanges with similar international communities.

The laboratory promotes regular meetings open to all interested parties.
Scheduled for September 2025:
  • a deliberative workshop entitled “Mobility and public space in neighbourhoods” (13-14 September)
  • a presentation of the results of the “Space and change in the neighbourhoods of Municipality 9” project
  • a research seminar on future prospects
