As part of the City Science for Transformative Urban Futures Honours Programme, the series of open lectures continues with the session “Science, Representation, and Environmental Challenges,” scheduled for Monday, April 20, and led by Barbara Piga and Eugenio Morello, coordinators of the Fausto Curti Urban Simulation Laboratory.
The lecture focuses on the role of representation and simulation as key tools for addressing contemporary environmental challenges, linking urban design, perception, and environmental quality. Through interdisciplinary approaches and advanced simulation tools, LabSimUrb’s work helps make the complex interactions between design and context legible, anticipating the effects of urban transformations.
In this context, representation becomes a true infrastructure of knowledge: not merely technical support, but a space for mediating between different forms of knowledge, capable of activating co-production processes among researchers, institutions, designers, and citizens. Simulating scenarios, visualizing impacts, and making information accessible allows for the construction of shared foundations for action, facilitating more informed and inclusive decisions.

As part of the Honours programme, the lecture strengthens the dialogue between scientific knowledge and urban policies, offering tools and perspectives to address the complexity of environmental transitions and contribute to the construction of more sustainable and resilient urban futures capable of learning from change..
