This seminar investigates the specific challenges associated with the preservation of 20th-century mass housing (estates), with particular attention to the diverse historical and political contexts that have shaped its development and current condition. By bridging experiences across the former Eastern and Soviet Bloc and Western Europe, the event seeks to foster a shared understanding of how mass housing is perceived, managed, and adapted as a form of architectural and urban heritage.
The case studies include Romania, Lithuania, Armenia, France and the United Kingdom. These will be compared with the Milanese experience, as represented by the case of the City of Milan's built heritage managed by MM S.p.A.
