The seminar addresses the question of performative architecture as an ecological approach to sustainable construction.
Surpassing the rhetoric of parametric design and biomimicry, this new form of architectural metabolism informs the materiality as well as the geometry of architectural components at different scales. The seminar will introduce the notion of synthetic vernacular architecture as a design to perform methodology to evolve indigenous technologies towards affordable architectural tectonics made out productive components. Such evolutionary process will generate a taxonomy of architectural components conceived not just as structural elements but as environmental devices able to regulate air circulation, daylight and other bioclimatic aspects minimising energy consumption. On the
other hand, this new metabolic approach will bridge high and low technologies to fabricate building components able to produce renewable energy and recycle water.
